In the hottest weeks of summer, living without air-conditioning can make you totally miserable. My apartment doesn't have air-conditioning, and until I figured out how to stay cool, summer was awful! But with these tips, you can stay as cool as possible and manage to live until the weather cools down.

The very first thing to do is to try to find some window fans or standing fans. Having a breeze blowing through a hot room or apartment can really help. If you can't get any fans, open windows if you have any.

his sounds counterintuitive, but don't use a handheld fan that you wave in front of yourself. The physical activity will make you hotter than it's worth; the fan can't cool you as quickly.

As much as possible, hold still and don't engage in physical activity. Spending as little energy as possible will keep you cooler.

his goes without saying, but wear a thin t-shirt and shorts, or a light pair of pajamas, and don't use flannel sheets! Don't sleep with a lot of covers, and don't wear heavy clothing -- it'll just make you hotter.

If you really can't handle the heat, take a cold shower or bath. You don't even have to wash yourself -- you can just stand/sit in the cold water and enjoy.

t can be a nice treat to spray your face/stomach/arms/hair with water (spray bottles are available at drugstores) and then let a breeze blow onto you, either from a fan or a window. This cools you instantly and feels awesome!
