Do you get unbearably jittery before a test, recital, competition, or big school event? Does that anxiety stay with you even once you have reached your destination and are in the moment? If this is the case then pay close attention to find out ways to channel anxiety so that it can be used to your benefit.

Dress for success.
The bottom line is that dressing nicely makes us feel good. But dressing nicely does not necessarily mean wearing the most expensive things you own! Maybe to you dressing well means wearing a favorite article of clothing that has some sort of sentimental value. Or maybe dressing well means wearing something that you worked hard in order to buy. Whatever the case, wear something that makes you feel good. If you are comfortable you will be more confident.
Envision victory.
Once you get to the moment where your anxiety is at its peak and the moment you’ve been stressing is upon you, take a few minutes to pull yourself together. Don’t be negative and say that you are sure you are going to fail the test, you aren’t going to make the winning shot, or that you are worried you might embarrass yourself somehow! Imagine yourself succeeding and you probably will. Picture yourself knowing all the answers, scoring the winning shot and having all your teammates cheering for you, or simply envision yourself standing tall and proud. Imagine yourself at your best and strive to achieve that moment.
Remember where you were.
Once the stressful moment is over give yourself a pat on the back for getting through it. No matter what happened know that you gave it your best. If you are a competitive person try and look at what improvements you have made instead of focusing on what you did or might have done wrong. All you have to do is note what you did wrong and then remember to focus on fixing that fault the next time around, but don’t dwell on your mistakes. Pay attention to all of your accomplishments because if they are important to you then no one else can make you believe those achievements are insignificant. Absolutely every step you make, even if it’s a step backwards, will help to set you on the right path to success.
