You might have seen a lot of news stories about the oil spill near Louisiana. It's pretty bad, but a friend of mine told me about a way to help out with the spill. It turns out that hair - from humans, and fur, from animals - can be used to sop up oil, both in the water, and on animals. Here's how you can do what I did - save some of your hair, and help the environment!

Collect hair.
This isn't as gross as it sounds - check hairbrushes around your house (mine is always full of hair) for hair. If you have a pet that's shedding (and now that it's spring, you probably do!), brush your pet and save the hair (or pick up any clumps that might be lying around your house). Put it all in a baggie (something like Ziploc will do). If you're going in for a haircut, as the person cutting your hair if they would be willing to save what they clip for you.
Go here: http://www.matteroftrust.org/programs/hairmatsinfo.ht.
There, you can sign up to get a mailing address for where to send the hair. Make sure your parents are cool with it ;)
Send your hair, and know that you're helping the environment!
Tell all your friends to do it too!

That is uber cool!
