This dance never gets old. I can’t recall how many times I have seen this dance done by a group at parties, weddings, etc. It definitely pays to know the steps so that you’re not left out but having a fun time with the crowd! One important thing to remember is that there are different variations of the dance. Some people choose to do basic side steps, some do grape vines. Also, the electric slide isn’t exclusive to the “Electric Boogie” song by Marcia Griffiths. It can be danced to other songs and the steps will remain the same. It also doesn’t require special dance shoes or attire!

Here’s video of the version with the grapevine step that I personally like and find popular. The song is not the “Electric Boogie.” As mentioned before, you can do the electric slide to other songs:

Sorry, you need to install flash to see this content.
Take two steps to the right side (Left foot out, right foot in, left foot out, right foot in). If you want, you can do the grapevine step where your left foot comes out, right foot crosses behind the left, left foot comes back out, and you end with your right foot tapping in next to the left foot. Clap your hands at the same time that you complete your final step (right foot in).
Similarly, take two steps to the left but this time, start out with the right foot (Right foot out, left foot in, right foot out, left foot in). Clap your hands when you are bringing your left foot in.
Take 3 steps to the back, starting with your right foot. It’s almost like walking backward (right foot back, left foot back, right foot back). When you’re done, both feet should be facing forward but the left foot should be a little in front of the right. Clap your hands after you are done with the three steps. (1,2,3, CLAP).
Now the hardest part: bend your upper body forward and then clap. Next, bend your upper body back upright or a little backwards, following it with a clap. For a little flavor, shake your shoulders.
Do a quarter of a turn to the left. So if you were facing forward before, you would now be facing your left side. This is not a move in itself but rather; you’re starting the whole dance again as you move your right foot out. You’re turning as your right foot steps out so that you can begin at Step 1 again!
Keep doing steps 1 to 5 until the music ends!
